Weather instruments can be a nice addition for your home. Whether you're an avid fan of the weather, your kids love weather, or you just want to experiment and learn more, there is so much to choose from and you can have so much fun learning and observing. I've always been interested in theweather and one of the best gifts I can remember getting was a weather instrument kit from my mom. It came with a small rain/snow guage, thermometer, and even an anemometer. It was perfect for a kid who was just beginning his interest in the weather. If you have kids who are interested in the weather, then these types of weather instrument kits could be a great gift for their birthday or another occasion.

Rain Guages Simple weather instruments like rain guages can be the perfect starter for anyone. Now, some even have software where it can provide instant feedback to your computer without ever having to go outside. They measure the amount of rain that has fallen over a period of time.

Barometers

Barometers are not as common in the home as rain guages, but can still provide good use and good learning. Find out more about what a barometer is.

Thermometers are probably the simplest weather instrument you can buy. Most are easy to setup and can be placed outside with ease. There are many different types of thermometers, so more expensive than others (more features) but they all pretty much do the same thing.

Weather Vanes

Weather Vanes have been around for a long time and although many are used mainly for decoration of homes, many people still use them as instruments for weather forecasting. Find out more about Antique Weather Vanes

Anemometers

Anemometers are a little less well known, but they are used to measure the speed of the wind. They have cups that make the device speed up or slow down depending on how the wind is blowing that day.

Hygrometer

Hygrometers measure the amount of moisture in the air. Like anemometers, these are not as popular for beginner weather enthusiasts as the above devices, but it is still one of the most useful weather instruments and would be a great addition to the home for learning or collecting data. So these are the usual type of weather instruments for the home. Buy them for yourself or your family if they are interested in the weather. It will make a great addition to the home!
