So what causes climate change? Find out about the many types of climate change evidence and where to find world climate maps.

The Earth's climate is changing and it always has. There is plenty of evidence of past climate changes on the earth thousands of years ago. The big question is, how will we as a people deal with this new challenge?

So first, what are some of the causes of the Earth's climate changing? For starters you can start with us! I'm sure all throughout school and even now you have heard and keep hearing about greenhouse gases. These gases primarily contain Carbon Dioxide. Evidence has shown that these gases have increased ever since humanity started industrializing. There is also evidence that these gases have destroyed portions of our ozone layer which protects us from the harmful rays of the sun.

Next, you also have natural causes and effects on the world's climate. For instance...the sun. The sun is always in a constant state of change and can greatly affect the Earth's climate if it is in a high state of activity.

Ocean currents also affect the Earth's climate. The Gulf Stream for instance plays an important part in keeping areas around it warm and temperate throughout different times of the year. There were actually fears of the Gulf Stream being disrupted (or even affecting hurricanes...see more on How Do Hurricanes Form) during the BP oil spill and affecting the temperatures along the coasts of the US and UK.

Third, you have volcanoes that can affect the Earth's climate. There were many times in history where huge eruptions that disrupted the climate. The famous "Year Without a Summer" happened when Mt. Tambora erupted. It was the largest eruption in recent history and spewed tons of ash into the atmosphere. All throughout the nothern hemisphere, crops were damaged and snow was falling into June and July in some places in New York and Canada. Even with all these natural causes however, we as humans still have more of an effect on the climate.

There has actually been some debate as to whether or not we have a huge effect, or if it's just the Earth going through a natural cycle. Either way, with us knowing what causes climate change, we can always stand to find other cleaner and renewable energies to rely on. This will be the challenge for the new generation that is rising up.
