	Where do Hurricanes Occur Weather facts about the most common places hurricanes occur? Where do hurricanes occur? Find out the many places where best weather conditions for hurricanes to happen are. Many places located around the world. Many people are confused on where these weather systems can happen. If someone is from the states, they may think that they will just affect places along the east coast and the Gulf of Mexico. However, nothing could be further from the truth! In fact, they can and do happen all over the world. Let's break down the many places where these menacing storms can occur. The Atlantic Basin When hurricane season rolls around, many people in the US will ask the question "Where do hurricanes occur?". Storms usually come off the coast of Africa early on in the season and form into tropical storms and hurricanes as they travel across the Atlantic Ocean. The weather conditions in this area of the Atlantic are very favorable towards development for tropical systems. Depending on steering currents, most storms may just head out to sea, but many storms also get steered right into islands such as Bermuda, the Bahamas, Haiti, etc. The weather conditions are usually perfect for the storms to occur at this time of the year. Storms can also hit the east coast of the United States. (anywhere from Florida and up to Maine in some cases). You also will get storms that travel into or form in the Gulf of Mexico. Places from Florida all the way into Texas, Mexico, and Central America can be affected by these storms. The Pacific Basin (East) In the eastern part of the Pacific, tropical cyclones can form and affect places like western Mexico. VERY rarely does one make it up into California but as you know, sometimes the weather has a mind of its own, and it has happened on occasion. Storms can also occasionally affect Hawaii. Most storms that form in this area of the Pacific don't affect as many areas or cause as much damage as storms that form in the Atlantic. The weather conditions in these areas are usually preferable to hurricane development as well. The Pacific Basin (West) On the western side of the Pacific, storms affect many areas. Storms form in the open sea and can go on to hit areas like Australia, New Zealand, small islands like Guam, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Philippines. The Indian Basin Where do hurricanes occur in the Indian Ocean? Well storms can form and affect places like Australia, India, the eastern coast of Africa, and even up into places like Oman and Yemen. So as you can see, the places where hurricanes can form are usually in the warm weather areas close to the equator where lots of low pressure storms form.
